ABOUT ME

Hiking.jpg

My name is Jen, and I'm a Canadian girl, in my mid 20s, living in the Pacific Northwest and enjoying all the perks that come with this part. I grew up in a very conservative city and moved to the hippie capital of Canada. According to the Meyers-Briggs Personality Test I'm an ESTJ, that's pretty accurate. The word I've most often heard describe me is "quirky". I got a job once where they asked me a story and I told them Candle Cove, but I couldn't remember the end, so everyone died at the end.

Honestly making a blog post and talking about who I am, feels a bit like a Black Mirror episode. I remember multiple ones about social media, one in particular that the amount of people who follow you determines your way into the best homes and jobs. I'm going with this analogy because we always want to feel like we connect with people on the Internet. I know I do, as I follow social media influencers on Instagram, my favourite actresses/actors and my favourite contestants from Survivor and the Bachelor.

Based off of my Goodreads, I probably read too much. I've been a reader since I was 7 years old? I started reading chapter books as soon as could. At that time, the market was saturated with horse books and The Baby Sitters Club, so I was one of those readers. I stumbled upon Harry Potter at 8, and fell in love. Tamora Pierce, Libra Bray and Gossip Girl were my middle school year reads. Anne Shirley, Meg Murray, Hermonie Granger, Alanna of Trebond were my role models growing up. I've always been loud and opinionated, so I liked girls that were not afraid to stand up for themselves. No one (especially not girls) when I was growing up were really into fantasy books, and I've always had a love of strong-willed, independent females. It was hard to find people to talk about them with, and wanting to fit in I didn't really read fantasies. Once I got into university, I was like fuck that and read whatever I wanted.

Fantasies are my thing. Weird fantasy, fairy tell retellings, magical realism, epic, doesn't matter I'm probably obsessed. With saying that, I also love mysteries, scifi, horror and experiencing classics ands seeing how they relate to newer books. Most of my reviews/posts will be in regards to my love of fantasy. That's me as a reader though.

If I'm not curled up with a book tanning at the beach in the summer or in a chair with a cup of TV in the winter, I'm most likely hanging out with my friends at the soccer pitch. I play on a multitude of teams and have been playing since I was 5. So actually longer than I've been reading even. A couple years ago I also realized that I love Yoga, and try to do it a couple times a week. Lately, I've realized that Bootcamp/HIIT classes are something else I really enjoy. I also watch far too much TV, including This is Us, Survivor (Ozzy was one of my first crushes), MTV's The Challenge, Riverdale, the list goes on. I used to write PLL fan theories back when I was in 2nd year of Uni.

With living in the Pacific Northwest I've got the advantage of being surrounded by the beautiful outdoors. There's a lake/beach near by that I can read and drink wine at all summer. I'm a major wine snob after all the wine tastings I've done. One day this summer, me and my friend hit 9 wineries in one day. There's also a ridiculous amount of hiking trails near by that is a lot of fun to do with friends.

I'm making this blog mainly to do reviews for books. I have no one to talk about books with, thus I'm hoping to create a community to talk about books with. My rating system will be similar to the Goodreads rating system (1-5), but instead of stars I'm going to do glasses of wine. The more I like it, the more glasses of wine it gets.

Over time I may do other posts, such as, favourite Christmas movies or things to do at Christmas, ranking hiking trails, my thoughts on a TV episode or recommendations for said TV show. I may also do posts that are just book lists. It's my blog, so I can really post whatever I want. This obviously said to the same tune "as it's my party and I'll cry if I want to".

Other random facts: I belong in Candor, Slytherin, a combo of Rachel/Phoebe, Gemini

That's me in a very small nutshell.

Cheers!
