This is another mystery in the same vein as Gillian Flynn, Tana French and the like. It's designed to deliberately shock you. I'm dead inside and very desensitized, so I mean I guess it was pretty fucked up? But it felt like it was trying to hard to shock me, with the angle the story was going for. It gave me vibes to the creepy pasta, normal porn for normal people.
Twenty years ago, Claire's eldest sister Julia disappeared and now another girl has gone missing. It is eerily similar to Julia's disappearance. As Claire goes deeper down the rabbit hole to discover what happened, with her sister things will never be the same.
The most interesting part of the story is the recovering of the relationship between Claire and her sister. I love a good family dynamic, it just makes a story better. This one was interesting, because the two obviously struggled with the loss of her sister and dealt with it in different ways.
It was honestly a really good book, twists and turns and the right amount of fucked up. I was into it and read it super quick.
Trigger warning: violence against woman, sexual violence, gore, violence in general.
3.5/5
I did enjoy this and recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries. It has strong woman and is a good read. Not for the faint of heart for sure.
Cheers,
Jen.
