This is a graphic novel that tells the story of two star-crossed lovers from opposite sides of an intergalactic war. Alana and Marko are two different species and are on the run, due to their relationship and them having a kid. It is at parts narrated by Hazel (their daughter), as if she's looking back on things as an adult.

I heard about this book before hand (all good), and was really intrigued by this. Plus the cover has a woman breast feeding on the cover. It's pretty bad ass and I think it's really cool that they normalize something that should be, but isn't.

Saga honestly lived up to the hype. The story is great, I was super intrigued by everything going on. The artwork was good, the different species were imaginative. Every single character was intriguing and I wanted to know what happen. The worlds were fully imagined and were good at showing us what's going on, but still letting us figure stuff out. There was different plot points juggled in the same chapter, but it worked and made sense.

The artwork/story is this weird combination of cute, sweet, graphic, disturbing, sexual and it all just works. I honestly could not put it down. I enjoyed Alana and Marko's relationship of having two totally different upbringing, being young and in love and having a kid they didn't expect. There is bickering of course, but above all else they love each other. The Sextillian is just weird and fucked up in every way you'd expect it be. The Lying Cat may be one of my favourite things I've ever seen. Where can I get one?

5/5

Seriously just read this book. It's honestly that good. I think this is tied with The Sandman for the best graphic novel seres I've ever read.

Cheers,

Jen
