Genre: Fantasy, Middle-Grade
Note: I read this for Fantasyathon. This counts for reading a Backlist Book, continuing on in a series and reading a book in a genre/medium that I don't usually reach for.
This book is in a vein with Alice in Wonderland in that it just fun and a nonsense fantasy. September meets up with her Shadow, a lamp, A through L and her other friends. The creatures are cute and whimsical, and so is the whole plot and September.
September is older in this one and has a little more perspective. She is a teenager now and *spoiler* experiences her first kiss. September is just as resourceful and witty as in the first, but had a little more perspective and even tougher than before. I truly think this series will go down with the other children's classics because it has everything needed to become one. The tone, writing, pacing, somewhat ridiculousness of the characters, and the adorable drawings. The book is just so cute! I loved when September got to meet Tea. Coffee and they talked about how tea just wants the best for you.
4/5
I recommend this to anyone who likes whimsical tales and just wants a fun, easy read. It's just an all around enjoyable book.
Cheers,
Jen
